Unlock PS VR2 with KAT Walk on PC: Official Compatibility & Setup Guide

Our KAT Walk Treadmill is now compatible with PS VR2 on PC! Follow the step-by-step guide below, combine PS VR2 with KAT VR for an enjoyable time of Steam gaming!

Step 1: Prepare your computer

Before you begin, ensure that your computer meets the minimum requirements for SteamVR. We recommend using a graphics card that is at least RTX 2060 or higher. For more information about the required PC specs, you can visit the support page of the PlayStation website.

①Install Steam and SteamVR

  • Install Steam: Visit the Steam website to download and install the Steam client.
  • Install SteamVR: Search for SteamVR in the Steam store and download and install that application.
  • Run SteamVR: After installation, make sure to run SteamVR at least once to ensure proper configuration of the software.

②Download and Install KAT Gateway

  • Download KAT Gateway: Go to the KAT VR website to download the latest version of the KAT Gateway software. (Homepage→Support→Download KAT Software)

  • Install KAT Gateway: Follow the prompts to complete the installation of the software.
  • Run KAT Gateway: After installation, open the KAT Gateway application.

③Connect the KAT Treadmill

  • Connect the USB Cable: Connect the USB cable located underneath the treadmill’s base to your computer. (⚠️Note: Do not use any USB extension cables or hubs to ensure a stable connection.)
  • Pair the Sensors: Follow the prompts in KAT Gateway to complete the sensor pairing.
  • Charge the Sensors: After pairing is complete, be sure to charge the sensors. At this point, KAT Gateway should display the sensors as "Connected".

Step 2: Connect your PS VR2 to your Computer

To play Steam games using your PS VR2 in conjunction with the KAT treadmill, you will need to have a PS VR2 PC adapter, you can purchase it from Sony.

Please refer to Sony’s official tutorial on how to connect the PS VR2 to your computer.

Step 3: Configure SteamVR and KAT Gateway

Once you have successfully connected your PS VR2 to your computer, follow these steps to configure SteamVR and KAT Gateway.

①Run SteamVR

  • Launch SteamVR: Open the SteamVR application on your computer and ensure that its status indicates "Ready". This means that SteamVR is properly set up to recognize connected VR devices.

②Check KAT Gateway Settings

  • Open KAT Gateway: Now, return to the KAT Gateway application and navigate to the System interface.
  • Check Oculus and Steam Support Versions: Ensure that both the Oculus support and Steam support versions are correct. They should display as 1.0.0.x instead of 0.0.0.

③Enable KAT Plugin in SteamVR

  • Access SteamVR Settings: In the SteamVR application, go to the settings and make sure that the KAT plugin named kat_insteam_executor is enabled. This plugin allows KAT devices to work correctly within SteamVR.

④Configure Game Profile

  • Find the Game Profile: In KAT Gateway, locate the profile for the game you want to play.
  • Open Game Configuration: Click on Game Config to configure the settings for your selected game.
  • Ensure Key Mapping: Check that the Walk Action key in KAT Gateway matches the movement key in the game. Typically, this should correspond to the joystick or joystick click action.

Step 4: Launch the game and Calibrate Movement

With your KAT treadmill and PS VR2 set up, you are ready to start playing your favorite Steam games. Follow these steps to launch the game and calibrate your movement settings.

①Start the Game

  • Access the Game Library: From the SteamVR menu, navigate to your game library.
  • Run your desired game: Select and launch the game you want to play.

②Adjust Game Settings

  • Change Movement Settings: Many games default to teleportation movement. To enable free movement, enter the game’s settings.
  • Set Movement Direction: Look for an option to change the movement direction. Set it to move in the direction of your head’s orientation (i.e., where you are facing). This setting enhances immersion while using the KAT treadmill.

③Calibrate Movement Direction

  • Calibrate your Direction: Once you are in the game, follow the on-screen instructions or settings menu to calibrate the movement direction. This may involve standing still and ensuring the game recognizes your initial position correctly.

Step 5: Enjoy playing

After all the steps above, you should be able to enjoy a seamless VR gaming experience using both your PS VR2 and the KAT Walk Treadmill. Have fun!
